I do not think its a lamination for three reasons - first, and most importantly, I have never seen a lamination with a perfectly circular cutout. The smooth arcing circle, with the same diameter as the Lincoln, almost certainly means it is some other sort of error at best. Second, the line through the]]>

Sounds like a tricky situation.  Copper is tough to deal with especially when lots of minty red remains.  Sometimes in an effort to improve something we take away a bit of the coin's original character.  In my experiences with NCS, sometimes spots come off and the piece is amazing, sometimes the intensity of the spots can be reduced, sometimes the spots remain.
