To help deal with some responsiveness issues on the servers and make sure the boards are speedy, I have turned off the new post counts that show on the list of forums. I have also limited the size of forum searches that can be performed.
New posts will show inside of forums but not in the forum lists.

Some of you may have noticed brief service interruptions on the Collectors Society Website the previous two Mondays (early morning, if you’re on the East Coast). Obviously this is something that we never want to do, and we apologize for the inconvenience. We do also pre-announce forthcoming site outages here in the message boards Announcements section.
Now for the good news. This gave us time to bring some serious performance enhancements online. This Collectors-Society.com is faster and more responsive all around. If you’re on the site a lot, no doubt you’ve already noticed.
These were “behind the scenes” upgrades. While they weren’t accompanied with the release of any new features, they allow us to keep moving forward with the next series of website enhancements – real knock-your-socks-off features. Definitely stay tuned.

We will be performing some maintenance on our servers Monday, October 18 from 7am – 10am ET. The Collectors Society, NGC, CGC, NCS and PMG websites will be unavailable during this time. This outage will not affect the message boards.
Thank you and we apologize for any inconvenience.

The new site is almost here!
The Collectors Society website will be offline on Monday, July 26 from 1:00 pm. The scheduled outage will last for four to five hours until approximately 5:00 pm.
Please make sure to have submitted any open web pages before the down time. If you are in the middle of editing a set or article when the site goes down you will lose any unsaved work. Changes processed before 1:00 pm will not be affected.
During this time, the Message Boards and the grading service websites will remain online.
For more information, please see the previously posted article.

While we’ve kept quiet about the details of forthcoming enhancements to Collectors Society, we have been very hard at work and we are very proud of what’s coming. It’ll knock your socks off!
The first phase of this change is that the website will have a new look. While the layout will be cleaner and fresher, the menu structure and functionality of the site will be really familiar to you. Members familiar with how things work will definitely not have a hard time transitioning to the new design. This is important to us. (And no, the chat boards are not being redesigned.)
In the weeks ahead, portions of the site will use new displays that are customizable and allow you to look at your collection in different ways. This type of interface is very powerful and intuitive, and relies on web technology that simply didn’t exist when Collectors Society first launched. Better yet, they enable the suite of new features that are coming to the site.
Of the features themselves, we’ll spare you the iPad-style buildup, other than to say they are magical, revolutionary and transformative...
But seriously...our mission is to create the best online community for collectors of coins, comics and paper money. For over 100,000 members, we’re already doing that, but what’s coming really takes Collectors Society to the next level. For coins, a number of incredible features will be coming right away, and launches on the comics and currency areas of the site will follow in the weeks ahead. We’ll have plenty of information and video tutorials to describe everything that’s new, and of course we’ll be here to respond to any questions and comments that you have.
The main purpose of this notice is to let you know that the site will be down for between four and five hours prior to the launch. An exact time window will be posted here before the launch.
Also, we’d like to make a quick note about web browser compatibility. Because the new Collectors Society site takes full advantage of the latest technology, users will experience optimal performance with the most current browser versions. We strongly recommend that members using Internet Explorer 7 and earlier versions upgrade to Internet Explorer 8 for a better site experience. Users of Firefox, Safari, Chrome and Opera browsers should not encounter any issues.

We’ve added a great new way to look at Registry Sets in the Collectors Society: the Slideshow view.

Clicking on this tab opens a page of thumbnail images. Click PLAY to launch a Slideshow displaying pictures full-size. Each slide show consists of up to 50 collectibles, and, if a Registry Set is larger than that, additional pages will be available to see subsequent portions of the set.
The Registry is the best way to share your collection with others, and the new Slideshow feature showcases a collection like never before. We hope you like it.
Viewing tip: Use the left and right arrow keys to move from one image to the next.

We know that it’s frustrating to visit your favorite website only to find that things have been moved around on the page. For that reason, we’re very hesitant to make these sorts of changes, and we only make changes when it’s part of a major improvement.
With that in mind, this week we’ve restyled the header information that appears above Registry Sets. The new presentation is cleaner and more consistent across the site, and also allows you to navigate easily from one set to the next within a category. But the main purpose of this change is to accommodate a new site feature that is being introduced later this month. It’s a great feature, so stay tuned for that announcement.
Also in some of the category listings in the Coins and Notes Registries, subheadings have been added. In a few categories, we jostled the set types around to make the layout more orderly. Since most of the navigation in Comics is done using the search feature, an update wasn’t made there – but we did break down the alphabetical list into single letters. Again, we think these changes make the site a lot more readable and should be an improvement. Hopefully, you agree.
Whenever we make changes to the Collectors Society, we do like to hear from you. We value your feedback, so please email or PM me if you have any comments.
